The amazing thing about jamming is that it's like the ancient philosopher Forrest Gump said, "it's like a box of chocolates. You never know what your going to get." Thursday night we had a smaller than usual crowd. The group in the front room started playing Christmas songs and since I get to listen to those 8+ hours a day at JC Penney I was not in the mood to hear any and was itching to play some Bluegrass. So, Linda Garrison, Jim McGreevy, Joe Wilkerson, Wayne Loveall and yours truly went to one of the back rooms and had one of the best jams that I've been in for a while. It was just one of those nights with the right people the right blend of instruments and the right songs. Well Friday night rolled around so I thought I'd go to the Kansas City club and get another dose of pickin. The crowd was pretty small there also but Bill Barker, Harvey and I set us in one of the rooms and tried to get something started. Now you can jam with a Bass, Banjo and a fiddle but it really helps to have a guitar in there to fill things out. Well no guitar players came in so we picked for awhile and then adjournedto the basement to listen to Jim McGreevy and Blue Monday play for a while. They are great and you need to listen to them if you get a chance. We went back up to try again and I'm sad to say not guitar player again so we gave it up for the night. But, that's how it is sometimes. You can have one of your best times one night and then be disappointed the next. Well that main thing is to keep trying. Fully enjoy those great jams and look forward to the next time and hope it's as good or better. Until next time. Keep pickin' and see you when I can.
